Low unemployment and rising inflation in Europe

Por Economía Newsgur

In the Eurozone, the improvement of the labor market continues. Unemployment in the Eurozone closed the month of December stable at 8.7%, at minimum since 2009. The total number of unemployed in the region as a whole is 14.1 million, 5.2 million less than four years ago but still 2.7 million more unemployed than before the start of the crisis. The evolution of unemployment remains very heterogeneous by countries, ranging from 3.6% in Germany and more than 20% in Greece, to 16.4% published in Spain.

Meanwhile, prices continue to be contained in the region as a whole. The preliminary CPI rate remained at 1.3% year-on-year in January, one tenth below the December reading and at the lowest levels of the last 6 months. Without taking into account some more volatile items such as energy, the CPI stood at 1.2%, unchanged compared to January.
