Pablo Iglesias receives the journalism award Rodolfo Walsh

Por Diana M.

Pablo Iglesias, Secretary General of Podemos, was recently declared worthy of the Rodolfo Walsh Journalism Prize awarded by the National University of La Plata. According to the institution in a statement, the recognition was given to him for his "invaluable contribution in the construction of a more plural, inclusive and democratic communication."

Among several candidates, Iglesias was the definitive choice of the group Rodolfo Walsh, organization that baptized the main building of the Faculty of Journalism and Social Communication as "President Néstor Carlos Kirchner." The leader of Podemos must pick up the prize in La Plata on the coming March 26.

Important personalities from the world of politics have been honored with this award. Among his achievements are the names of Venezuelan leaders Nicolás Maduro and Hugo Chávez, as well as Evo Morales himself, Rafael Correa and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

As stated by the institution itself, Rodolfo Walsh seeks to highlight the commitment of the Deputy of Podemos in "the expansion of spaces for citizen participation and their struggle for the deepening of democracy in Spain." The initial proposal, made by the students, ensured that the irruption of Podemos "has modified the European sociopolitical scene", twinning it with Latin America.

We can have a system implemented by your party. Plaza Podemos is a platform where people can post their proposals for the Spanish sociopolitical project, also known as the forum of the militants. Those that have a certain number of positive votes (the equivalent of 0.2% of those enrolled in Podemos), automatically go to the participation portal. Then, both the registered and the circles can support the proposals.

The Faculty of Journalism and Social Communication awards the Rodolfo Walsh Prize each year to different categories, to "prioritize the teaching of journalism in the university fields and develop investigative journalism," according to its official website.

The journalistic award honors the Argentine journalist and writer Rodolfo Walsh, who disappeared in the last Argentine dictatorship. The fundamental filter of the Prize is constituted by the Honorable Academic Council of the National University of La Plata. The award has a selection process and is delivered in three aspects, the professional career, the journalistic work of the year and the best thesis of journalistic research in university areas within the country.
